The theme for this year's Art Trail Wanstead is Nature: a Breath of Fresh Air. Breathing life into the annual event is Art Group Wanstead founder Donna Mizzi, who outlines this year's special trail events.

Artists and businesses are working together to make your visits to the High Street more colourful, fascinating and sociable from 9 to 24 September. Here are a few highlights.

Sunday 3 September: art workshop
An art workshop for children and adults to help publicise the trail at the farmer's market on the High Street (10am to 3pm).

Friday 8 September: eve of the trail review
The Stow Brothers, the trail's main supporter and hub, is holding a reception, including art for kids (4pm to 6pm), then a gathering for adults (6pm to 8pm). Open to the public. A wide range of art will be on display at this new estate agent's premises at 117a High Street.

Saturday 9 September: art trail launch day
Art and photography by students and members of Wanstead House Community Association will be on display during a special open day (10.30am to 1.30pm). Join an art or flower-arranging workshop, listen to Upbeat Choir or play chess. Find out about the various clubs, classes and activities on offer.

Saturday 23 September: Flamingo Fair

Learn how to make realistic paper butterflies with botanical artist Katherine Poluck (for adults and children), see a portrait-drawing demonstration by tutor Michael Martin (from about 1.30pm) and engage the children in colourful projects.
