The captain of Wanstead's ladies' cricket team has been given a British Citizen Award for her services to volunteering.

Saba Nasim joined Wanstead Cricket Club in 2009 and soon started volunteering, coaching youngsters every Friday night during the summer.

Saba went on to establish the first girls-only cricket project in Redbridge and east London – Redbridge Rangers Cricket Club – and has encouraged more than 1,000 girls to try the sport.

Saba received her award at a ceremony at the Palace of Westminster last week.
