Newham Council has confirmed a change of management at Aldersbrook Community Centre.

"We can reassure people using the Aldersbrook Community Centre that it will not be closing in June. The centre will be now run by Newham Council rather than the previous management organisation," said a spokesperson. "We are aware the management committee have agreed bookings in the centre until the end of October and we are committed to honouring these."

"In the past, like many councils, we have supported groups using our properties through charging minimal fees but sadly this approach is no longer sustainable. We have been attempting to work with the organisation running Aldersbrook for a number of years to amend the terms but have been unable to reach an agreement. As a result, we have now given notice to end the agreement with them to run the centre. The council is facing continuing pressures on its budgets and we have a duty to ensure we use our taxpayers money effectively and efficiently while also maximising the value of all of our assets. We will now be reviewing all of the options available to ensure we make the best use of the Aldersbrook site."

Although located in Redbridge, the Brading Crescent venue – which is available for private hire with a capacity of 175 – is sited within a housing estate owned by Newham Council.
