The story of the saving of Wanstead Flats and Epping Forest

The story of how Wanstead Flats and other open spaces were saved from development will be told at a Wanstead Historical Society presentation this month.

"The growth of mid-Victorian London swallowed up huge areas of green space, arousing many campaigns... The story usually concentrates on a small group of elite campaigners, and the role played by ordinary Londoners is forgotten. This is their story," said Mark Gorman, whose talk will take place at Wanstead Library on 18 January from 8pm (visitors: £3).
