A summit to discuss the future of Wanstead Park will take place at the Houses of Parliament this month.

Chaired by John Cryer MP, the meeting on 22 November will aim to ensure there are no obstacles to next year's planned Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) bid to secure a capital injection for the park. "Good progress has been made in drawing up plans for the long-term strategic management of Wanstead Park... The original [HLF] timetable has already slipped, and we'd like to make sure any remaining stumbling blocks are resolved to ensure next year's deadline can be met," said John Meehan, chairman of the Friends of Wanstead Parklands (FWP).

One of the problems in the HLF bid is the uncertainty over the status of the park's lake system, which the Environment Agency believes has the potential to cause catastrophic flooding of the Roding valley.

Attendees at the meeting will include representatives from the FWP, City of London, HLF, Environment Agency, Historic England and Redbridge Council.
