Campaigners will gather for a demonstration outside Redbridge Town Hall this month as they await the council’s decision on the future of Wanstead Youth Centre.
The Elmcroft Avenue venue is under threat of closure following claims over £2.4m of refurbishments are needed to make it fit for purpose. “The cabinet meeting on 14 September is when the decision about the future of the youth centre will be made. We will be gathering outside from 6.30pm,” said a spokesperson for the Save Our Wanstead Youth Centre campaign, which is calling for a 12-month moratorium to allow further time to explore other funding options.
“The centre is used daily by multiple groups, from the youngest to the oldest members of the community. It is the only remaining youth centre of its kind in the borough.”
Last month, campaigners also took their message to Parliament.
