Victory for common sense: no prosecution for River Roding Trust

WVD-JUL-2026-ppBarrister and river guardian Paul Powlesland

The Environment Agency has dropped plans to prosecute River Roding Trust volunteers for restoring the Alders Brook without a permit.

“It’s a relief they have finally realised that prosecuting volunteers for cleaning and restoring a river – which they had left to rot – was not a good look, so they have dropped their charges in favour of a ‘warning’. This is, however, not the end of the story… I will not be seeking their permission to continue to care for and restore the river I love,” said Trust chair Paul Powlesland.
