A children’s playground is to be installed in a former storage and utility area behind the Temple in Wanstead Park.

“Park visitors have been intrigued to see some very large logs appearing in a clearing behind the Temple. These logs are the beginning of a balancing activity in a new natural play area for children. The playground will be growing bit by bit over the next year or so as more simple play structures are created to form a very welcome addition to the park,” said Gill James from the Friends of Wanstead Parklands.

Give us our street back: petition calls for speeding controls and a safer Hermon Hill

A petition has been launched calling for speeding controls and safer pavements on Hermon Hill.

“Hermon Hill is a residential street and is currently an accident waiting to happen. It is being used by a high volume of speeding drivers and for overflow parking in Wanstead… The road also serves as a main pedestrian thoroughfare to the High Street. The situation is dangerous, creates a lot of mental anxiety, and is environmentally damaging,” said Lloyd Sampson, who started the petition last month.

In response, Councillor Jo Blackman said: “Hermon Hill is quite high on the list for road safety improvements. I share the frustration that it’s not happening more quickly, but the council has a large number of roads requiring attention and limited resources. I will continue to make the case for this to be prioritised.”

With the Wanstead Festival set to return to Christchurch Green on 12 September, organisers are looking for local bands and solo performers to take part.

“We are looking for performers who are under 25 to complete the line-up. It’s a great opportunity to perform on stage. At least one band member has to live in Redbridge, and preference will be given to Wanstead residents. We aim to provide a range of musical styles and try to ensure that there is a diversity of performers,” said Pete Feldon.
